Napoleon’s
Army

The Napoleonic Wars went from
1803 to 1815. During
that time, French power rose quickly,
conquering most of Europe, but
collapsed rapidly after France’s
disastrous invasion of Russia
in 1812.
The following is Charles Joseph
Minard’s famous graph of the
decreasing size of the French army.
The
size of the army is proportional to the line widths.
The march to Moscow
is in tan. The
march back to France
is in black.
